Local Findability Explained – Why it Creates Optimized Businesses
Local SEO is now more important than ever. More and more searches have a local search intent and search engines such as Google use location data to show the most relevant results possible.
Let’s say you’re away for a weekend in an unfamiliar city and you’re looking for a grocery store. You can now simply enter “supermarket” + “the relevant city” on your smartphone and Google will show you
If you have a local business yourself, you obviously want to benefit from this. It would be a shame if someone looking for a product or service locally can’t find your company. The searcher does not know about your existence and will buy the product from the competitor who has worked on its local findability.
There are two different forms of local SEO. Namely: the local 3-pack and the local organic results. There are therefore different optimization opportunities per form. If you implement all these optimizations, your company will become more locally findable in search engines! In this article, SDIM will discuss this in more detail.
What is the local 3-pack?
Because the location of people is increasingly known via the smartphone, it is easier for Google to determine where someone is. People who search for businesses and places near their location will now see results that are “physically” near them. These results appear in Google Maps and Google Search.
The results that appear in Google Search are called the local 3-pack. The local 3-pack shows the three most relevant search results near the visitor in an overview. The local 3 pack is the successor of the local-7 pack. In the past, 7 local search results were displayed. Google has now adjusted this to 3.
